![]() One of the biggest perils of the youth blindly following influencers is the forced mindless consumerism that’s fed to them. The observations and the inferences we collectively drew are rather very interesting, so let’s take a deep dive into the ‘other side’ of the long term repercussions of this heavy content creation consumption that are dancing around us today. However, with so many people suddenly becoming influencers and calling themselves that, it makes me wonder who is actually now getting influenced? I am simply curious and hence I went on a rampage asking people around me what they thought of our influencers and if there’s a dark side to this industry in India which no one is talking about. Okay so this is not exactly a rant about the over-bursting bubble of the social media influencer marathon, which has a LOT of young people running in the race to be uncrowned kings and queens of the internet world, loved by their followers. That’s all of us, and on the other side of our bright screens are human figures who’re what one may term as content creators but some are lovingly called, or are self-proclaimed ‘social media influencers’. ![]() You openYouTube for a recipe, and hours later you’re watching a vlogger talk about the daily routine of their pet dog, and you don’t even know who they are, but now you’re invested. One click and before you know, you’ve been sucked into the quicksand of watching endless loops of reels. ![]() Most of us are guilty of ‘indulging’ in putting a crazy amount of our time consuming content on the internet. It's 2023 and so when we use the word ‘indulgence’, it no more means indulging in the occasional shenanigans of life or diving in that tub of ice cream staring at you from the freezer. ![]()
